Current Project -From Shed to Creative Studio
Some of you might not know that I have an entire studio upstairs in my home. We actually turned a part of the attic into a room that was originally a place to hang out and read and meditate. It is now a place for silversmithing, painting, sewing, etc…. A haven for any maker of things who has an overwhelming desire to create. We are also what I call “shed poor”. We have 4 sheds behind our house. This is only because when my parents became ill, we converted our garage into an apartment for them to live in. My little space upstairs is difficult to get to and it does not heat and cool very well. The shed just outside our backdoor will become my new creative space. It’s smaller, but that will force me to get rid of some of my projects that never got off the ground, like painting silk scarves, or making beautiful greeting cards. So … the project begins.
The last two days were spent cleaning and organizing my husband’s tool shed, the largest, making room for my “stuff” from my shed. My shed moved from the boutique I owned once upon a time. I’m not even sure what is in there - but most of it is going. The plan is to add A/C and Heat, electricity, insulation and paneling, flooring and a real front door. I never felt completely comfortable using a torch with propane and oxygen in my home! Better a shed burn down, than the whole house. The fun part is I will do most of it myself. I know that doesn’t sound fun to many of you, but for me ….. it’s another project! (Those of you who know me know exactly what that means).
So Natalya (our daughter from another mother) and I have been brainstorming. We have decided that we can learn everything we need to do this project on YouTube. (Well, we might need a real electrician). It’s amazing the vast amount of shared knowledge on those channels. We will begin by emptying the entire shed. Measuring and coming up with a plan for where to put what. Then the work will begin. I am so excited, because the location of this particular shed is right outside my back door. Hoping to at least get all the jewelry supplies and sewing supplies and machine in the shed. Not sure the painting supplies are going to fit. We shall see.
I have not made a piece of jewelry in a very long time. It is something I love doing. I have enough supplies to last a lifetime! So - let the creating begin very soon.
I have no name
Until you name me.
I have no form
Until you shape me.
I don’t exist
Until you make me,
I am creativity.I am waiting deep inside you
Touch my spark
And let me light you,
Give me life
And I’ll revive you
I am creativity.
